Gleeson set to become Laois manager

Darren Gleeson is set to become the new manager of the Laois senior hurlers.

The Executive Committee of Laois GAA has recommended and formally proposed the Portroe native for the position, vacated by fellow Tipperary man William Maher, who stepped down after two years in charge.

Gleeson’s appointment is subject to ratification by Laois club delegates at an upcoming County Committee meeting, but it should be a mere formality, and would mean a swift return to inter-county management for the former Antrim manager who completed six years in a role this past season.

It will certainly be a much shorter commute for the former All-Ireland winning goalkeeper to a Laois side, who were narrowly beaten in the MacDonagh Cup final by Offaly this year, with Gleeson knowing what it takes to win it having guided Antrim to successes in 2020 and 2022.
