Ormond Historical Society visit to Terryglass

The Ormond Historical Society final field trip of the current season takes place on the afternoon of Sunday 8th September next. The outing is to the historic village of Terryglass and will be led by members of the Kilbarron-Terryglass Historical Society. Intending participants should assemble in the village for a 2.30 p.m. start.

Terryglass – the land of the two streams – was where St Columba founded his celebrated monastery in 549. In the intervening years the village has seen many changes, yet the remains of the abbey wall, bawn wall, tower house and holy wells keep the rich heritage of the village alive.

Our guides will explore the history that these walls hold - "If those walls could talk"! They will relate the story of the "Latin Hall" as told by 83-year-old Daniel Hogan in 1913. We will also pay a visit to the "Headache Well" and stroll through the village looking at other points of interest. All are invited to join us at 2.30 pm on Sunday 8th September for what will prove to be an informative and entertaining afternoon.

The OHS would like to thank the Kilbarron-Terryglass Historical Society for kindly agreeing to reschedule this outing which unfortunately had to be cancelled earlier in the summer due to illness.
