Just a second jumps win for Twomey

Tipperary Racing Scene

Paddy Twomey landed just his second National Hunt success as the Johnny Barry-ridden Seo Linn won the concluding bumper at Ballinrobe on Monday week last.

An odds-on favourite for owners Ann Phelan and Bridget Beckett, the four-year-old led well before the straight and pulled clear to win by an easy five and a half lengths from the Henry de Bromhead-trained Tangara Bay and John Gleeson.

The trainer’s only other scorer in the same code came at the Punchestown festival in 2015 where the Jane Mangan-ridden Timing'severything was a bumper winner.

On the back of a big week that saw him capture the Ebor Handicap at York, Henry de Bromhead was earlier on the mark as the Sean and Bernardine Mulryan-owned Dancing On My Own won the two-mile one-furlong conditions’ chase.

Ridden by Rachael Blackmore, the odds-on favourite was given plenty to do by the Gavin Cromwell-trained Je T’ai Porte, but he scored by a length and three-parts at the line to register his first success since winning at Cheltenham in October of last year.

Martin & Wayne Hassett combined to win the five-furlong handicap with Harry’s Hill at Bellewstown on Tuesday. Owned by the Tipperary Ramblers Partnership, the six-year-old was sent off a 4/1 joint-favourite and he notched up his eighth career success when making most of the running to beat the Gavin Cromwell-trained Transcendental by half a length.

Ben Coen was next into the winners’ enclosure as he landed the 12-furlong fillies and mares’ maiden on the Johnny Murtagh-trained Ob La Di. A 12/1 shot, she led over a furlong from the finish and became the fourth winner at the meeting to score by half a length as she got the better of Ger Lyons’ Market Timing.

Andy Slattery’s fine run of form continued when he sent out Royal Hollow to win the two-mile one-furlong mares’ hurdle at Bellewstown on Wednesday. Ridden by Cian Quirke, the 5/2 chance, owned and bred by Margaret O’Rourke, made most of the running and scored by a very easy eight and a half lengths from the James Barrett-trained Dame Rapide.

Rachael Blackmore and Henry de Bromhead won the opening division of the handicap hurdle over the same distance with the strong 11/10 favourite Chutzpal. A winner on the Flat at Killarney in July, the five-year-old followed up with the minimum of fuss as he made much of the running to win by all of twelve lengths from the Ciaran Murphy-trained Sydney Cruiser.

Andy Slattery and Cian Quirke were winners once again as the Brendan O’Sullivan-owned Struck By Churchill landed the opening four-year-old opportunity maiden hurdle at Wexford on Friday. The 8/1 chance moved into a challenging position at the second-last hurdle, and she got the better of the Gavin Cromwell-trained even money favourite In The Trenches from the final hurdle to win by a length.

Toomevara trainer Ray Hackett took the concluding three-mile and one furlong handicap chase with Stormy Master. Owned by the trainer himself, the 22/1 chance scored by a length and three-parts from the David Phelan-trained Cafe Del Mar, a second course and distance success for the ten-year-old.

Rachael Blackmore and Henry de Bromhead shared their second winner of the week as Tag Man landed the three-mile conditions’ hurdle at Down Royal on Friday. The Roger Brookhouse-owned 9/4 chance led passing the omitted final hurdle and stayed on to beat Charles Byrnes’ odds-on favourite Run For Oscar by a length and a half.

Aidan O'Brien rattled off three quick Ryan Moore-ridden winners to open proceedings at the Curragh on Saturday.

The 2/11 favourite Acapulco Bay was their first as he took the eight-furlong maiden in good style. Making all the running he came home a length and three-parts to the good over his own stable companion Genealogy, ridden by Wayne Lordan.

The Group 3 Newtownanner Stud Irish EBF Stakes went the way of the 6/5 favourite Dreamy which made it two wins from as many starts when scoring by a length and a half from the Gavin Cromwell-trained Fiery Lucy with Mark Prescott’s raider Alla Stella a shorthead away in third place.

Ides Of March ran out a far easier winner of the Group 3 Heider Family Stables Round Tower Stakes to complete a treble for O'Brien and Moore. An odds-on favourite, he made much of the running and went clear a furlong from the finish to beat Donnacha O'Brien’s Usdi Atohi by a comfortable three and a quarter lengths.

Moore then outdid his trainer when making it four winners on the day as he got Joseph O'Brien’s 22/1 chance Wigmore Street up on the line to win the €100,000 Irish Cambridgeshire. The four-year-old came from the rear of the field inside the final furlong and a half to pip the Bill Farrell-trained favourite State Actor by a head with the Andy Slattery-trained Independent Expert a nose away in third place.

Reusable eco cups were introduced at Tipperary Racecourse for their Family Fun Day on Sunday. A Tipperary Town Green Hub initiative in association with Mywaste and led by Tipperary County Council with the support of the Regional Waste Management Office, the aim of the Green Hub initiative is to assist businesses in the hospitality sector to better manage their business waste.

On the track itself, the Denis Hogan-trained Polemon won the concluding 12-furlong handicap in the hands of Daniel King. Owned by the Premier Racing Club, the 9/1 chance was well on top as he scored by all of three and three-parts of a length from the Sheila Lavery-trained favourite Lady Christa.
