Nenagh talent shines brightly

Nenagh's musical talent shone brightly at this year's All-Ireland Fleadh in Wexford, with the Ormond Branch of Comhaltas securing remarkable victories.

The Nenagh branch celebrated six All-Ireland titles and two third places.

Laoise Kennedy claimed first place in the highly competitive U18 Fiddle competition, with her friend and fellow branch member Mairéad O’Brien earning third place. Laoise further demonstrated her versatility by winning first place in the U18 miscellaneous competition on Viola, while Mairéad excelled in the U18 Fiddle Slow Air competition, taking the top spot.

The success continued for Laoise as she and her sister Clodagh teamed up to win the U18 Duet competition, adding another accolade to the Silvermines family's achievements.

In the U15 Slow Air competition, Kate Duffy from Ballyanny, Nenagh, secured first place on the fiddle, while branch newcomer Róise Pickrell made a strong impression by finishing third in the U12 Harp category and going a step further to win first place in the Harp Slow Airs competition.

A special mention also to branch members Réaltin Ni Dhuill and Micheal O’hÓgáin, who qualified for the All-Ireland in Comhrá U9 and Erin Ni Ógáin in comhrá U11.

Ormond CCÉ chairperson Brendan Quinn commented: “These victories reflect the dedication and talent within the Ormond Branch of Comhaltas.

“Our performance at the County Fleadh this year was also outstanding, with many soloists, duets, trios and bands qualifying and performing at the Munster Fleadh.”
