Car of the Show and winner of the Eric Campbell Cup 2024 at the Nenagh Classic Car Club show on August 5.

Exceptional display at popular Nenagh car show

MK2 Jaguar claims top prize

There was an exceptional display of cars at this year’s Nenagh Classic Car Club show, which took place on August 5 last.

The morning of the show started out quite showery and at one point it looked like there was going to be a poor showing of cars as a result; however, once the clouds cleared and the sun started to appear so too did a large convoy of classic and vintage cars, which simply poured in the gates of the showgrounds to create an amazing spectacle.

The cars on display ranged from vehicles from the 1940s right up to modern day classic vehicles, which made for a great display; it also highlighted the various design changes in vehicles over the decades. Spectators at the show enjoyed the trip down memory lane as they admired the cars from days gone by, and for some it rekindled memories of their first car or their family car from their childhood.

As always, it is a tough job for the judges at events like this because the calibre and condition of these Classic and Vintage cars has reached new levels in recent years. Car owners are investing more time and money in these old cars and you can see it when you see them on display at shows like this.

WINNERS

This year the exceptional MK2 Jaguar, owned by Joe Gibbs, won the hearts of the judges and as a result won Car of the Show 2024 taking home the very special Eric Campbell Cup. Eric was a great young man and had such a passion for cars just like his mam and dad. We are honoured to have this cup named in his memory and it is always a very special moment each year when this cup is presented.

Just over 200 vintage and classic vehicles were on display at this year’s Nenagh Classic Car Club Show. We had cars travel from all over the country, including from Cork and Belfast, to be at this year’s car show as the show has become an annual event and a great family day out for many car owners in the car scene.

It was great to see so many people support the show, despite the poor weather early in the day. In saying that we had yet another very successful show, which marked the 10th anniversary since our first classic car show where we had 60 cars on display. It is great to see how the show has grown over the years and to see the same faces return each year is a testament to the great team and committee we have both in the Nenagh Classic Car Club and in the North Tipperary Agricultural Show.

Gerry ‘Sonny’ Ryan would be proud

Shane Brady won the Gerry ‘Sonny’ Ryan Cup for favourite Japanese car at this year’s Nenagh Classic Car Club Show 2024 for his amazing 1988 Nissan Patrol.

It was a privilege to co-present the Gerry ‘Sonny’ Ryan Cup with Margaret Brosnan to this year’s winner Shane Brady for his amazing 1988 Nissan Patrol. This cup means a great deal to me as Gerry was a good friend to me during my childhood, he encouraged my interest in cars and taught me a great deal when it comes to maintaining and repairing these cars. Gerry’s passion for Japanese cars was the inspiration for the cup to be dedicated to this category and I know he would be extremely proud if he was here to see our annual show with a cup named in his memory.
