Cannabis haul in Newport

Suspected cannabis with a street value estimated at €9,000 was seized in Newport on Friday last.

The Divisional Drugs Unit say they are now preparing a file on the matter for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Gardaí investigating thefts from two cars at Saint Conlon’s Road, Nenagh, at the end of last month and another vehicle in Friar Street in the town have arrested a male and charged him in relation to the alleged offences.

Meanwhile, gardaí have urged people to be mindful of the impact fireworks have on pets after a family in Nenagh was left devastated when their dog was killed on the M7 earlier this week after running away from its home in Tullaheady.

The dog’s owner Taff Jones said fireworks had frightened the family’s beloved dog Suzie and led to her ultimate tragic end.

A spokesman at Nenagh garda station said a number of complaints had been received in recent weeks about people using fireworks in the town. Mr Jones, meanwhile, is appealing for people to think about the terrible impact their activities are having on pets to stop using fireworks.

In Roscrea, a window for a business premises in Rosemary Street was broken sometime between September 6-9. CCTV footage has been harvested in the area in a bid to identify the person or persons responsible for the criminal damage.

Separately, Sergeant Declan O’Carroll of Nenagh Garda Station has reported that cryptocurrency fraud is on the increase in the locality.

He said local victims who engaged with criminals online and being duped into making investments had lost a total of up to €5,000 in recent weeks.
