The Lisatunny venue, celebrating its 40th year, has undergone a massive facelift over the last year, spearheaded by the construction of a full-size all-weather pitch. New floodlights have been installed with the new pitch, while the lights on the main grass pitch have also been upgraded.

Another smaller all-weather playing surface has been installed to replace existing grass junior members training area, plus the construction of footpaths and fencing around both all-weather playing surfaces.

The dressing rooms in the clubhouse have also been refurbished while the gym has also been upgraded, with the car-parking area fully tarmacked.

The works were made possible by the funds raised from the sale of their old grounds in Tyone where a dedicated healthcare facility is under construction, with the new facilities installed with zero debt with money remaining for maintenance of same into the future.

Welcoming everyone to the official opening, Nenagh Ormond President John Long said this special day wasn’t just about the new facilities, but also expressing thanks to those “unsung heroes” of the club who made it possible.

“To the development committee led by Seanie McCullough, to our main committee, your commitment, passion, and hard work are the backbone of our club.

“From organising fixtures to managing finances, from maintaining and developing facilities to ensuring the smooth running of events, your efforts are truly invaluable.

“It is through your dedication and selfless contributions that our club thrives and continues to provide a platform for players to excel, fans to enjoy, and the community to come together.”

This was IRFU President Declan Madden’s second visit to New Ormond Park in five months having been on hand last April to hand over the AIL Division 2A title in what he said were “great days for Nenagh Ormond.”

He added: “Nenagh Ormond is 140 years old and that is an important milestone. It is important to remember our forefathers who made so much of this possible.”

“Nenagh Ormond is a very impressive club who promote respect and inclusivity, values of rugby that carry through life and it is important they are passed on.”

The official opening new of the new facilities were carried out by the clubs former Ireland ladies international Fiona Steed, as well as men’s international Trevor Hogan who was massively impressed by what has been developed in his home club.

“I was reminiscing about what it was like in Tyone, and to what the club has done now; to everyone that has been involved it is just amazing,” he said.

“What is good about this and what helped to fund this is the development of a primary care centre in Tyone and what a brilliant facility it will be for the town. It is just great not just for the club but for the community on a whole to benefit.”
