Dogs parade show ring in style

It was a dogs' world as the four legged ‘family friends’ and their groomers and carers dominated the setting for the annual Dog Show at the Village Community Park, Birdhill.

From the fluffy to the cuddly, the big and the small, the quiet and the more domineering and their handlers there was a real task for the judge to select the most qualified under each of the categories for the prizes.

As they were paraded around the judging ring by their owners and handlers they were all winners on the eyes of the score of admirers for their impeccable turnout.

In the end there were rosettes for many and several awards for some, but all were well behaved and done their owners proud on the afternoon, obeying their every command as they parade the ring in style.

Anne McLoughlin was presented with the coveted top award for her ‘Nala’, judged the overall winner of the Champion of show 2024.

For some the judge deliberated, but in the end decided to call it a tie, as ‘Kia’ presented by Aine O'Gorman and David of Healy's ‘Chase’ were declared the joint winners of the class for the Best Medium Size Dog.

‘Chase’ also collected the award for the Dog with the Waggiest Tail for his owner, David Healy.

But ‘Kia’ ended the afternoon as the most adorned with honour and rosettes, after adding the award for the Best Dressed Dog at the show and the award for the Best Groomed Dog to the honour in the Best Medium Size Dog class.

‘Miley’ presented by Emily O'Brien was judged Best Small Dog and the title for the Best Golden Oldie was awarded to ‘Poppy’ presented by the McGrath family.

Marion O'Brien kept the proceedings moving smoothly throughout, seeing the programme through to its final.

Best Large Dog: ‘Bobbie’ with Mairead O'Brien.

Best Puppy 1 Year: ‘Freddie’ with Annabel O'Toole.

Best Dog, Aged 2-7: ‘Poppy’ with Ava O'Malley.

Best Golden Oldie: ‘Poppy’ with the McGrath family.

Best Groomed Dog: ‘Kia’ with Aine O'Gorman.

Best Junior Handler: ‘Ruby’ with Ava May Maughan

Best Dressed Dog: ‘Kia’ with Aine O'Gorman.

Waggiest Tail: ‘Chase’ with David Healy.

Best In Show Champion 2024: ‘Nala’ with Anne McLoughlin
