Local schools in abuse report

Nenagh CBS is among 14 Tipperary schools named in the Scoping Inquiry into Historical Sexual Abuse in Schools run by religious orders.

Published last week, the inquiry report lists 10 allegations involving six alleged abusers at the CBS Primary.

Also among the Tipperary schools are Cistercian College Roscrea (two allegations involving two alleged abusers) and Templemore CBS Secondary (one allegation, one alleged abuser).

Almost 2,400 allegations involving 884 alleged abusers were made nationally to the scoping inquiry. The inquiry spanned a 30-year period between the early 1960s and early '90s.

The inquiry has recommended that the Government consider a redress scheme for survivors of historical sexual abuse in day and boarding schools. It has also recommended that the Government approach relevant religious orders about contributing to redress.
