Drom ease past short-handed Borris-Ileigh

Drom & Inch proved too strong for a young Borris-ileigh side who struggled without the injured Tess Ryan and Emma Kelly in this round 4 Tipperary Senior Camogie Championship match at The Ragg on Saturday evening.

Drom & Inch 2-21

Borris-Ileigh 1-9

Two first half goals from Eimear McGrath and Niamh Treacy helped the county champions to a 2-7 to 0-5 lead at the break.

It was a comfortable win for Drom who were more efficient with the ball, creating more scoring opportunities than their counterparts. Eimear McGrath was her usual excellent self on frees hitting eight in total to add to her 1-1 from play.

Best for Drom were Niamh Treacy who really hit form, running straight through the heart of the Borris-Ileigh defence who struggled throughout the hour to cope with her as she finished with 1-3 from play.

Drom had eight different scorers (in contrast to Borris-Ileigh’s 3) with Maureen Ryan, Miriam Campion, Mary Burke and Aoife McGrath all hitting fine points while Siobhan McGrath and Niamh Long also raised white flags when introduced.

Best for Borris-ileigh were Sinead O’Meara, Nicole Walsh and Katie Fitzgerald. Nicole in particular was excellent especially in the second half where she worked extremely hard. Drom though with the two Eviston’s Mairead & Anne in the half backline always looked under control.

Borris-Ileigh’s goal came from Katie Fitzgerald after a good pass from Grace Stapleton. Borris-Ileigh play Eire Og Annacarty next Saturday evening in a crucial game for both sides as they both look to grab a quarter final spot and avoid a potential relegation battle while Drom & Inch head to great rivals Burgess/Duharra with top seeding for the quarter finals on the line.
