Coast Guard Open Day

Killaloe Coast Guard unit will hold an Open Day at its base at the Pier Head on Sunday, October 6, from 11am to 1pm. If you live within 3km of Killaloe and want to volunteer your time to help people in need, please come along and meet the local team members.

The Killaloe unit provides a 24-hour Search and Rescue service throughout the entire year. It provides water rescue on Lough Derg and surrounding areas; land search teams with 4x4s; all-terrain vehicle; drone team with DJI M30T, and an underwater ROV search team.

Coast Guard Call-out

At 1.30am on Saturday week last, Killaloe Coast Guard unit was tasked to investigate reports of a vessel travelling in a dangerous manner within the speed limits of Killaloe/Ballina. It was then seen leaving Killaloe and heading north on Lough Derg. A mobile unit travelled to Garrykennedy where the vessel was observed with engine difficulty making its way to the public mooring. Once the vessel was safely alongside, the occupants were spoken to by the Coast Guard officer in charge. Once it was confirmed that everyone on board was safe and well, the unit was stood down and returned to base.
