Music, song and dance at iconic Tipperary site

The Holycross Jubilee Team is thrilled to present an evening of captivating storytelling about the Holycross Abbey, accompanied by music, song, and dance at the Holycross Community Centre on Saturday, October 5.

On the night you will hear stories about Holycross Abbey. These stories are woven into the very fabric of the land, a living history that continued to inspire in today’s world.

Stories such as: The founding of the abbey by Dónal Mór Ó’Briain; How the abbey got its name: You will discover the fascinating origins of our historic abbey's name and the tales that surround it; the Goban Saor: Immerse yourself in the story of the legendary expert builder and craftsman, whose skills were said to be unmatched.

Tomb of the Good Woman’s Son: Listen to the poignant and mysterious tale of the Good Woman’s Son and the connection to the abbey, and how the Butler Relic came to be in the abbey, where it is again displayed today.

The night will also have music, song and dance. You will be able to enjoy a selection of tunes from our talented county champions Scór group, a selection of songs that celebrate our heritage, performed by the talented local singer Mark O'Gorman. We will have vibrant dance performances by our young local dancers that bring the spirit of our community to life.

Finally, the Holycross Abbey Jubilee Team would like to extend our deepest gratitude to Premier Engineering, Holycross, for their generous sponsorship. Their support has been instrumental in making our vision a reality. We would also like to thank Tipperary County Council for their continued support and advice.
