Newport were drawn against a strong Carew Park ‘B’ side but they made their way through to the next round after a tough battle.

Scoreless at the break, James Lynch put Newport in front following good work by James Kirk. Colin Coleman doubled the advantage when played through by Luke Ryan.

Carew pulled one back through Logan O’Byrne but Newport held on to progress.

Youths

In the FAI Youth Cup, Lough Derg staged another great comeback to advance to round 2 following a 4-3 extra time away win to Shelbourne.

Oisin Rowan finished well to give the visitors an early lead but it was 3-1 to the hosts after an hour. With fifteen minutes left, Matthew Ryan finished well and with five left Jorden Pratt scored with a clever lob to send the tie to extra time. With two minutes left, Oisin Rowan bent a screamer of a free kick into the top corner to clinch the victory and into a round 2 clash with Aisling Annacotty who defeated BT Harps 4-1.

Nenagh AFC went down by the odd goal in seven to Murroe. Coilin Doris, Daniel Connolly and Phelim Creagh scored for the Tipperary side.
