Celebrating 20 years of Active Retirement

Templemore Active Retirement was founded in 2004 with Pat Costello serving as its first chairman.

Tom Murphy was vice-chair, Elsie Browne was secretary, Ella Lambe was assistant secretary, John Galvin was treasurer with Mary Nolan, Michael Connell and Maire Regan on committee.

A celebratory dinner was held recently in the Templemore Arms hotel to mark their 20th anniversary, which was attended by National President May Quaid. Other invited guests included Fiona Crotty (Tipperary Age Friendly), Joanne Mulqueen and Damien O’Donohoe (representing North Tipperary Development Company), Garda Teresa Widel (representing Templemore Garda College) and Cllr Eddie Moran (representing Tipperary County Council).

We were delighted to have some of our founding committee members present at the function, while a presentation was made to seven members who have been active since the beginning - Betty Campion, Geraldine Collum, Patricia Cullen, Maura Meade, Maura Regan, Nancy Treacy and Noreen Whelan. We would also like to thank Ben Collins and Noel Joyce, who provided fabulous entertainment after our beautiful meal.

Our anniversary cake was cut by the National President and our current Chairperson, Bridget O’Dea. Thanks also go to Burkeena Wind Farm for their very kind sponsorship.

Our current committee put a lot of work into organising the event and great credit is due to Bridget O’Dea, Geraldine Collum (Vice-Chair), Esther O’Brien (Secretary), Maureen Cullen (Assistant Secretary), Eadaoin Russell (Treasurer) and committee members Josie Bergin, Ann Stapleton and Geraldine Purcell.
