Second half dominance sees Moneygall into decider

Moneygall pulled away in the second half to book their place in the County Intermediate Camogie Championship final after seeing off Cahir in the second semi-final at the County Camogie Grounds on Saturday.

At half time only two points separated the teams with Moneygall holding a slight 0-7 to 0-5 lead. Cahir, however, only managed two second half points from frees as their challenge faded with Moneygall finding their grove as their scoring prowess shone through.

Roisin Howard was Cahir’s only scorer in the game, hitting her first point after five minutes. Moneygall hit the next three points from play with Niamh Larkin, Caithlyn Treacy (free) and Mairead Teehan all raising white flags.

For Cahir, Aoife Flynn and Laura Dylan were steadfast in defence while Niamh Costigan and Aoife Corcoran were working hard to get the ball into Roisin Howard. Three points from play from Howard saw the game level at 0-4 apiece after fifteen minutes.

Mary Ryan then began to sit back in front of her centre back Julie Kelly and together they stifled Rosin’s influence for the remainder of the game.

At the start of the second half, Roisin Howard pointed a free but unfortunately for Cahir they failed to score again until the 45th minute when she pointed another free.

Moneygall, on the other hand, grew more into the game, winning all their individual battles, while up front they created more and more scoring opportunities. Four points in a row from Ciara Maher, Caithlyn Treacy (2) and Niamh Larkin was followed by a well struck Mairead Teehan goal to make it 1-11 to 0-6 points after 43 minutes.

Howard’s final free was a short lived reprieve for Cahir as Moneygall fired over the next six points in succession to run out comfortable ten points winners.

It was a surprising result given the closeness of the opening half but one which was thoroughly deserved for Moneygall.
