Newport march on in Munster to face Nenagh’s conquerors

Mungret Regional 3-2 Nenagh AFC
Nenagh AFC bowed out of the Munster Junior Cup on Sunday going down by the odd goal in five at current Premier League leaders Mungret Regional.
The home side took the lead midway through the first half through Cian McNicholas and ten minutes after the restart they doubled their advantage.
However, Nenagh battled back, and Dylan Morrison reduced the deficit on the hour mark. Five minutes later substitute Mike O’Gorman pounced to level the tie.
With extra time looming, Mungret snatched the win when Conor Myers scored what proved the winner.

Regional United ‘B’ 2-3 Newport Town
Newport Town reached round three of the Munster Junior Cup with a hard earned win over a dogged Regional United ‘B’ team on Sunday.
The result gives Newport home advantage against Mungret Regional for a place in fourth round draw which opens out to the full province.
Newport took the lead just after the half hour mark when Par Murtagh set up Jamie Kavanagh to score. A foul on Ciaran Carey presented Brian O’Sullivan with an opportunity from a spot kick which he duly converted. When Pa Murtagh again provided the ammo for to score number three it looked game over.
However, Ben Carew pulled one back for Regional and a late converted penalty for the home side made the final whistle a welcome sound for Newport.

Lower Leagues
Herbertstown opened up a huge seven-point lead in Division 1B following a 7-0 win over Newport Town ‘B’. Oisin O’Grady and Mike Ryan scored a hat-trick each to seal the win.
In Division 2B, Lough Derg beat Athlunkard Villa ‘B’ 6-2. Charlie Grace opened the scoring on fifteen minutes while JP Mbokha Tansia headed home a sweet finish ten minutes later before a superb team counter attack finished by Dan Fogarty made it 3-0 on 35 minutes.
Athlunkard scored a penalty to reduce the arrears going into to the second half before Dan Fogarty made it 4-1 on 50 minutes and completed his hat-trick on the hour mark before another Athlunkard penalty gave Derg something to think about. Charlie Grace had the last say finishing well for 6-2.
In Division 3A, Lough Derg ‘B’ defeated Patrickswell ‘B’ 3-2 A wicked deflection gave a lively Patrickswell team a lead and doubled it from a corner. Derg upped the ante in the second half as route 1 delivered on the hour with Cian Oakley deftly finishing. Evan Quinn set up Donal Houlihan for a piledriver from distance for 2-2 before Adam Nolan showed great skill to deliver a sweet assist to Jakub Slaga for a winner.
At Youths level, Lough Derg were away to Murroe in the second round of the Munster Cup and doubles from John Kerr and David Goode gave Derg a 4-0 win.
