We weren’t going to leave it behind again - King

Moneygall captain Edwina King struggled to hold back her emotions in the aftermath of her sides victory in the Tipperary Intermediate final on Sunday.

“The emotions are so high right now, but just so happy to have got over the line this year,” she admitted.

“We were there last year, we knew how it feels to lose a county final, it’s really not easy so we just battled hard today and thank God it came out on our side.

“We didn’t want that heartache of losing again, we’ve been in county finals over the last few years, and we’ve won some and lost some and we weren’t going to lose today.

“It was our aim from the start of the year, we didn’t speak about it too much, but we worked up a ladder step by step and that was the aim for today was to win a county final which we did”.

King was so proud of her teammates, especially her defensive colleagues and how well they played, not just today but all year.

“Our defence is just unbelievable, they don’t get the recognition they deserve,” she added.

“The are so tight as a unit and that’s where our attack comes from, it comes from our defence and I’m delighted for them, that they all had a super game today”.

On the game itself, the wing forward was happy with how her side remained calm in the last few frantic minutes to get over the line and clinch the title.

“The tension was high near the end, and we tried to keep calm in the chaos,” she added.

“We have been practicing it all year and it’s worked at times and not at others but I’m glad we were able to keep calm and keep focused on our job and that was our aim for today and it worked thankfully”.
