New special school for Tipperary next year

Fianna Fáil TD Jackie Cahill has welcomed confirmation that a new special school is planned for Tipperary next year.

Deputy Cahill’s party colleague Minister for Education Norma Foley announced details of five new special schools that are to be established next year to cater for the increasing number of students with Special Educational Needs (SEN).

The five new special schools will be located in counties Cork, Dublin (2), Monaghan and Tipperary.

They will cater for children and young people with complex special education needs up to 18 years of age. They are being sanctioned as early as possible as part of advanced forward planning for the next school year 2025/2026 to ensure that appropriate placements are available where needed to meet the needs of students with special educational needs.

Deputy Cahill said: “I’m very pleased that Tipperary is one of the locations of the five new special schools planned for next year.

“We must have an educational system that works for everyone and is appropriate to all students’ needs. Special schools play a vital role in providing an environment where students with additional needs can learn and flourish.

“This new school in Tipperary will make a real difference to families and children with special needs in the county.

“It is great to see progress being made to increase the number of special school places. Fianna Fáil in Government is committed to delivering an educational system that is inclusive.”
