PREMIER LEAGUE

Janesboro 3-1 Newport Town

Following three successive wins in cup competitions, Newport Town was hopeful on return to league action on Sunday that they could pick up their first point of the season but unfortunately it was more of the same when they fell 3-1 to Janesboro.

Eoghan Burke put the home side in front but before the break the sides were level when Jamie Kavanagh scored a good goal.

After the break, it was the home side who upped the tempo to take the spoils with scores from Burke and Aodh O hAnluain.

Newport Town: Mark Forde; Eoin Looney; Pa Murtagh; Christy O'Connor; Darren Collins; Peter O'Sullivan; Joe Shanahan; Jamie Kavanagh; Conor Brett; Brian O'Sullivan; Christy Doyle. Subs: Killian O'Malley; Aaron Coleman; Ciaran Carey.

TUOHY CUP

Nenagh AFC 3-0 Carew Park

Nenagh AFC defeated Carew Park with relative ease at Jackman Park last Wednesday and in the process qualified for a quarter final tilt with Fairview Rangers which took place last night (Tuesday) but there was no result at the time of going to press.

Nenagh took the lead just before the half hour mark when Mike O’Gorman created the opening for Dan O'Meara to finish.

Nenagh doubled their advantage on the hour mark when Nichita Caaciuc picked out Dylan Morrison who found the net. Morrison completed the scoring with twenty minutes remaining, again Mike O’Gorman was the creator.

Nenagh AFC: Carl Williams; Lee Mowatt; Saeed Ryan; Colm Hayden, Kieran Barr; Dylan Morrison; Adam Ryan; Mike O'Gorman; Dan O'Meara; Roy Creagh; Matt O'Gorman. Subs: Mark McKenna; Ryan Gilmartin; Conor McCormack; Cillian Scully; Nichita Caaciuc.

Lower Leagues

Newport Town also had no luck in the Munster Junior Shield with both their ‘B’ and ‘C’ teams making their exits. John Ryan scored for the C’s who fell 3-1 to Moyross United ‘B’ while the ‘B’ team suffered the agony of a penalty shootout defeat at the hands of Brazuca. The game finished 1-1, Jamie Kirk netted for the Tipperary side.

In division 3A, Lough Derg ‘B’ went down 4-3 to Priory Prospect ‘B’.

Priory were well on top in the first half and led 3-0 at half time. On the hour, Adam Nolan scored for Derg and added a second five minutes later with Conor Stritch providing the assist. With Derg pressing for the equaliser, a defensive lapse gave up a fourth goal on 75 minutes. Derg worked hard and Adam Nolan completed a hat-trick on eighty minutes but try as they did, they couldn’t force an equaliser.
