The play, which will run in Nenagh Arts Centre from Tuesday, November 12, to Saturday, November 16, will see a return to the stage of some Players stalwarts along with some new faces. It is being directed by Irene O'Meara, who has already directed a number of Players productions.

The opening night on Tuesday, November 12, will be a Gala Night for North Tipperary Hospice, who do fabulous work in the local area.

Tickets, €25 to include a cheese and wine reception at 7pm in Nenagh Arts Centre, can be had from 087-6855884 or any Nenagh Players committee member. The show starts at 8pm.

Calendar Girls is based on the true story of 11 older women who posed nude for a calendar to raise money for the UK Leukaemia Research Trust.

The stage play tells the story of when Annie's husband John dies of leukaemia, she and best friend Chris resolve to raise money for a new settee in the local hospital's waiting room.

They manage to persuade four fellow Women's Institute members to pose nude with them for an “alternative” calendar, with a little help from hospital porter and amateur photographer Lawrence. The news of the women's charitable venture spreads like wildfire, and while the calendar is a success, Chris and Annie's friendship is put to the test under the strain of their newfound fame.

Calendar Girls, which has a cast of 10 female and four male actors, is being staged by Nenagh Players by arrangement with Concord Theatricals Ltd on behalf of Samuel French Ltd; see concordtheatricals.co.uk TICKETS
