GAA to mark milestone birthday in Thurles on Friday
This Friday, 1st November, the GAA is officially 140 years old.
On this date in 1884, it was founded in Hayes Hotel in Thurles with Michael Cusack, its first president.
To mark this event, the GAA’s History Committee will attend Hayes’ Hotel for a meeting at 12 noon, and be joined by Munster GAA President and GAA Vice President Ger Ryan, as well as other Tipp GAA officials to make a presentation to the hotel.
The history committee will later have a meeting in the same room the Association was founded. Also attending will be Patrick McKay, great grandson of John McKay who was elected first secretary, along with Cusack and John Wyse Power in 1884.
All are welcome to attend to mark this significant milestone.
