Borrisokane woman seeks ‘Bags of Love’
A WOMAN from Borrisokane who collects unwanted handbags filled with gifts for the homeless each Christmas is launching yet another mission of mercy for the coming festive season.
Deirdre Sage wishes to thank local business owners, playschools and everybody for all their donations to her ‘Bags of Love’ campaign, which she has been running now for the past five years.
Last Christmas, Deirdre received over 240 handbags, gear bags and boxes laden with gifts, which she donated to the homeless and emergency accommodation shelters in Limerick.
In 2023, there were so many donations from people in North Tipperary that Deirdre and her friends had to make four separate trips to the Limerick shelters to transport all of them from Borrisokane.
Different collection points throughout Nenagh and North Tipperary are currently being set up so that people can drop their ‘Bags of Love’
Deirdre and her friends will be collecting the bags at the different depots in the coming weeks, the last collection taking place on December 6.
As she does every year, Deirdre will also be doing a 12-hour sleepout on the streets outside the Novas homeless shelter in Limerick on December 7 to raise funds to aid those who do not have a roof over their head.
A ‘Bags of Love’ Facebook page is currently up and running for those who want to following developments in the fundraising campaign or to get more details.
Deirdre can also be contacted at 0876052396 if you wish to donate a bag of love.
