Milestone anniversary celebration for local business
A joyous occasion took place on Saturday evening last as local business Security in Shredding celebrated its 20th anniversary.
Based just outside Nenagh at Ballyartella, Security in Shredding (SIS) is a data destruction & recycling company that specialises in the provision of confidential shredding services & sustainable recycling/exporting services for businesses. Established in 2004 by the local Kelly family, SIS has grown from a small-scale paper-shredding operation to an industry leader in helping organisations and individuals throughout Ireland achieve Data Protection compliance in the disposal of material.
SIS does not only shred paper documents and provide recycling services. They shred and recycle hard-drives and uniforms. It's not all about destruction either; the SIS service extends to document-scanning so that you can save paper-based information digitally before the hard copy is securely disposed of.
What sets the Ballyartella business apart from others involved in similar enterprise is the reputation it has built up over the years for exceptional security, customer service, value for money and the use of globally leading technologies. SIS achieves the highest level of security during the shredding process, a level for processing high volumes which the company introduced to Ireland through inhouse designed technologies and European security standard certification of the processes.
All services are certified to ISO EN 15713, which is the European Standard for Secure Data Destruction. In addition to this certification, SIS was the first company in Ireland to have independent certification for shred sizes for high volumes.
SMALLEST SIZE IN IRELAND!
SIS can dice material into a shred size of 15.9mm cross cut particle, down to the high security size of just 6mm cross cut particle - that is the smallest particle size available in Ireland in high volumes from cross cutting technology!
A winning feature of SIS is the onsite paper shredding service, whereby the trucks travel to the client - anywhere in Ireland - to shred sensitive material at the their own premises. The client then receives a certification of Data Compliance post each confidential shredding service. Clients can even view the full destruction process on the truck's onboard camera system.
SIS can of course also arrange for the secure collection and destruction of material with both service options being externally audited and certified to ISO EN 15713.
The emphasis on security is a key asset. This extends to security screening prior to hiring employees processing sensitive personal data. Employees must sign a deed of confidentiality prior to beginning employment with SIS.
Moreover, all vehicles used in the shredding process are fitted with slam locking systems and GPS tracking.
It is important to note that sustainability is very much at the core of what this local business is about. Absolutely everything shredded by SIS, including electronic equipment, is sent for recycling - nothing enters landfill.
HOW CAN YOU BENEFIT?
The advent of GDPR in 2018 increased awareness of the importance of secure material disposal services amongst businesses and the general public in Ireland and saw demand for Security in Shredding increase exponentially. Providing such an important service, it has worked with some big clients over the years, including the Multinational Organisations, Indigenous brands, HSE, Department of Social Protection, Revenue Commissioners and County Councils.
Latterly, however, the SIS focus has been very much on private sector organisations such as financial institutions, pharmacies, opticians, solicitors, accountants and insurance brokers - all of which have found need for a reliable service to help them transfer their sensitive data from hard copy document to digital.
Equally, the Kellys' business has an individual focus for the domestic markets in that they help people needing to securely dispose of documents in such events as a retirement, remote working, emigration, or where someone is selling a home or business. The arrival of the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020 and increased numbers of people working from home has created a further demand for SIS support to individuals.
A FAMILY ENTERPRISE
The Security in Shredding business was started by Seán and Philomena Kelly. With a background in agricultural machinery, Seán developed a shredder capable of dealing with large loads of paper material, and the business grew from there to become the mobile, high security and sustainability-conscious enterprise that it is today.
The Kellys’ daughter Joyce played a pivotal role in getting the business off the ground and, memorably, designed the first SIS invoice. Their son Albert joined the company after finishing college around 10 years ago. He started out in sales and soon spotted a niche in the market for SIS to grow its service beyond that offered by other businesses operating in a similar vein, placing key emphasis on Data Protection compliance.
The Kellys have provided a great deal of employment since 2004 - locally and outside this area - and have maintained a sense of family among their employees in that time. Many former employees joined them for the celebration dinner held in The Thatched Cottage, Ballycommon, on Saturday night.
As they reflect on their first 20 years in business, the Kellys took the opportunity to thank all of the staff that worked with them over those years, as well as their many valued customers. Security in Shredding are also grateful for the support and guidance that they received from the Local Enterprise Board in the early years of business, and in more recent years the LEADER Programme, and the Local Enterprise Office in Tipperary.
