Cloughjordan photographic exhibition

Cloughjordan’s Thomas MacDonagh Museum is delighted to be launching a photographic exhibition entitled ‘Picturing MacDonagh’ at 6pm on Friday, November 15.

This is the final event in the Autumn Arts at the Museum Series and is the culmination of the Picturing MacDonagh photography course held in the museum. Over three weeks in October, 16 participants took part in a phone photography course with Mike Molamphy of Coolbawn Cross Photography. Participants learned a wide range of techniques including composition, the rule of thirds, leading lines and negative space as well as considering lighting, editing and framing.

Each participant has taken a photo, which is inspired by Thomas MacDonagh, his poetry and other writing, local places associated with MacDonagh, and topics such as hurling, travel and history.

Speaking about the photos featured in the exhibition, Mike Molamphy said: “There has been a really fabulous response from the participants who have produced a wide range of stimulating and engaging photographs, inspired in some way by life and works of Thomas MacDonagh. The exhibition also demonstrates how photography can be a tremendous vehicle to instigate conversations or observations on situations, issues and emotions. Visitors to the exhibition are guaranteed to come away with an increased awareness of the life and work of the Cloughjordan native who paid the ultimate price in pursuit of our freedom.”

The exhibition and course are both part of the Thomas MacDonagh Museum’s Autumn Arts in the Museum Series which also included performances by JaYne and Andy Spearpoint. The series has been supported by Tipperary County Council and the Thomas MacDonagh Museum. All photographs were printed by Coolbawn Cross Photography and framed by John Maher.
