Templemore Town Park

Excellent progress for Templemore in Tidy Towns national contest

An overall gain of nine points for Templemore in this year's national Tidy Towns competition brought their total mark to 328 out of a possible total of 550.

The following is a synopsis of the Adjudicator's comments. The new notice boards in the Town Park look great and are very informative. The Griffiths Valuation plaques on the buildings in the Square were super interesting and such a lovely way to draw the visitor into the history of the town.

Some lovely shop fronts with distinctive and unusual architecture, for example, Zina cake shops with the red brick, railings and bay window on the upper story.

The Templemore Arms hotel looks particularly well maintained with nice use of Irish as well as planted window boxes and hanging baskets putting on a good display. Codladh Sámh B&B looks well too with its nice bright paintwork.

The graveyard was well maintained and the sign project looks like it would have been very labour-intensive to create but very interesting to see.

The lovely garden in the Town Park looks very well with beds of mixed planting lined with birch trees and native hedging.

The ICA bed in the Square was also colourful, well weeded and the green area surrounding it is well managed.

The Park is such a treasure. It is being beautifully managed with large swathes of uncut grass, with lots of native flowers and grasses looking great.

The Park and Square were generally weed-free and litter-free. Quite a few derelict buildings in Patrick St. with weeds encroaching the foot paths and rubbish evident on the sides of the path. This was also true of Church St.

Of the residential streets and housing areas, Oakdale looked well with nice mature trees and well-maintained gardens and properties.

Concluding Remarks: Really enjoyed this visit to Templemore.

Thank you for entering the competition and for all the hard work you do keeping Templemore looking so well. It will be great to see it next year when the redevelopment of the Town Hall and surrounding area is complete.
