It could take until tomorrow morning Thursday, November 21, for normal water supply to be fully restored.

Crews working to restore water supply in Newport area

Due to operational issues at the Newport Water Treatment Plant, the capacity of the water treatment plant had reduced resulting in reservoirs depleting and impacting on supply to customers. Uisce Éireann has been working to restore full capacity and the treatment plant is now back to full production capacity.

Whilst every effort is being made to maintain supply customers may experience temporary, intermittent low pressure and/or water outages particularly at higher elevations of the network at Newport, Birdhill, Ballina, Gortybrigane, Ballinahinch, Killoscully and surrounding areas.

Works are complete at the plant and water supply will start returning to impacted customers throughout the day. However due to the size of the population served by this supply, it could take until tomorrow morning Thursday, November 21, for normal water supply to be fully restored to all areas, especially for those on higher ground or at the end of the network.

Colin Cunningham, Uisce Éireann, commented: “We understand the inconvenience an outage can have on customers, and we appreciate your patience as we work to return normal water supply as quickly as possible. We are appealing to customers to conserve water, to be mindful of their water usage as a small reduction by everyone can collectively make a major difference to supply.”

Customers are reminded that the Newport scheme is on a Boil Water Notice. When supply returns, customers must boil the water before use.

Alternate water supplies for anyone experiencing difficulties will be in place from 11am on Wednesday, November 20, at

•Newport Main Street across from O’Sullivan’s Pub.

•Birdhill at Matt the Trashers Pub

•Ballina at GAA Field at Cullenagh.
