Light Up Nenagh returns
It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas! As part of Tipperary County Council’s ongoing initiative to promote Nenagh town as a go-to Christmas destination Nenagh Live, Nenagh 800, Nenagh Tourist Office, Nenagh Arts Centre, Nenagh Chamber of Commerce, Tipperary County Council, Christmas Tractors and Spain AV present a month-long extravaganza of live Christmas entertainment.
Beginning with Light Up Nenagh 2024 on Sunday, December 1, the magic of Christmas will descend upon Nenagh when the Christmas lights will be officially switched on. Hosted by Trudi Lalor, this year’s entertainment will suit all ages and musical tastes. Light Up Nenagh 2024 will begin at 3pm with JP’s Gigantic Video Disco, Christmas Karaoke, Santa Claus and the Grinch amongst others making a festive appearance. A symphony of characters, costumes, children’s entertainment, musicians and dancers will be performing live on the main stage. With this in mind this year’s event will feature our largest production yet with an outdoor stage and a gigantic LED Video screen. The Christmas lights will be switched on at 5.30pm. Followed by lighting the Tree of Remembrance at Nenagh Courthouse at 6.15pm.
Please note on Sunday, December 1 - Pearse Street from the Market Cross to the junction with Kickham St will be closed to traffic from 7.30am – 9.30pm.
Beginning on December 14 we are delighted to present ‘Christmas at the Castle’, Nenagh’s annual two day Christmas festival and market. Complete with music, family entertainment, stall holders, local vendors, Christmas Funfair and Nenagh’s very own Polar Express. Here you will experience a fantastic mixture of light displays, projections, interactive elements and music creating a wonderous walking trail through the illuminated grounds of Nenagh Castle. Entry is free and is suitable for all ages, a wonderful Christmas experience ideal for family and friends near and far. The Christmas Experience at Nenagh Castle and Gardens has grown to become one of Ireland’s most loved and sought after Christmas events.
You better watch out as Santa Claus, Mrs Claus and the Grinch will appear in the magical setting of Nenagh Castle from Friday to Sunday, December 13-15. December 13 (Friday) is reserved for those with sensory needs. Admission is €15 per child including present, parents are free. Tickets go on sale at the Nenagh Tourist Office on November 30 at 12 noon, there is no pre-booking, in person collection and card payment only.
Light Up Nenagh and Christmas at the Castle Director of Events David Spain, says: “There’s no better time than Christmas to connect with friends, family and loved ones! You have to love the town at this time of year, Nenagh has always been a special place at Christmas. There’s no bah humbug here so remember to shop local and enjoy the festivities in your own way, Naynagh style!” Nenagh Town will host some amazing Christmas events this year. The Ormond Octaves annual Christmas Concert returns to St Mary of the Rosary Church on Friday, December 6, while the Nenagh Arts Centre presents the children’s panto ‘Little Bo Peep’s Christmas Mix Up’ on Saturday, December 14, at 2pm. Tickets, €10/€35 for a family of four are available from the box office. Nenagh Christmas Tractors annual parade will take place on Saturday, December 14, at 6pm. This nationally acclaimed annual all day event of Christmas fun will include a Christmas Market, Christmas Funfair and Children’s entertainment. To prepare every local household for Christmas Day Santa’s post-box will once again be situated outside Edel’s Boutique on Kenyon Street. A stamped self-addressed envelope should be included with the child’s letter and they will receive a reply from Santa.
