The in-laws are acting like outlaws!
The stage is set and the Lissenhall Players are eagerly anticipating this year’s production of the hilarious farce, ‘Squabbles’ by Marshall Karp, taking place from November 22-26 at 8pm sharp.
Under the expert direction of Kevin Whelan, this hilarious two-act comedy pits a father-in-law against a mother-in-law in a comedic succession of squabbles. Jerry Spain (played by Shane Kennedy) is a successful writer of advertising jingles married to an equally successful lawyer, Alice (Niamh Delaney).
Living with the happy couple is the not so happy Dessie Walsh (played by Maurice Daffy), Jerry's grumpy father-in-law. Dessie is a funny guy to the audience, not to Jerry. The situation is exacerbated when Jerry's mother Maggie (Mary Madden) loses her house in a fire and needs a place to stay. Dessie and Maggie can't stand each other.
This play is one hilarious confrontation after another until the heart-warming finale, in which the in-laws discover that, really, each is not so bad.
Other characters include the Spains’ mountainy-man friend, Hector Delahunty (Sean Butler); Dessie’s good friend, Billy Smith (Steven Popplewell); and Mrs Fisher (Debbie Finn), a strict, humourless nanny hired to take care of the baby against the wishes of Dessie and Maggie. Each of them suggests living with the couple and taking care of the baby, with the other in-law moving to a nearby apartment.
