Launch of book on the many revolutionary women of Tipperary

Renowned historian and author, Noreen Higgins McHugh, PhD, MA, BEd, invites readers to explore the riveting and often untold stories of the women of Cumann na mBan in her latest release, Revolutionary Women of Tipperary, 1914-1923. This meticulously researched book shines a light on the crucial, yet frequently overlooked, contributions of these formidable women to Ireland's revolutionary era.

Building upon her rich body of work, which includes Tipperary’s Tithe War, 1830-1838 (2003) and Tracing Your Tipperary Ancestors (2018), Higgins McHugh offers a compelling narrative that guides readers through the tumultuous periods of the War of Independence, the Truce, and the Civil War. Her book answers pressing questions about Cumann na mBan's structure, membership, and the courageous actions undertaken by these women in pursuit of Irish independence.

Drawing from extensive historical records, including the Irish Military Archives' 1930 Nominal Rolls, 436 pension summaries, and 364 Service Medal applications, Higgins McHugh presents a vivid account of the personal sacrifices and achievements of Cumann na mBan members from Tipperary and East Limerick.

The book also explores the international connections of Cumann na mBan, particularly in the USA, and their collaboration with the Irish White Cross.
