Trip to Killary Adventure Centre
Last week out Transition Year students went on a three-day trip to Killary Adventure Centre in Mayo accompanied by Ms England, Mr Miller and Mr Wixted. The students started their activities on their arrival. The activities ranged from ziplines, climbing tower, high rope course and a drumming workshop. They woke up to a blanket of snow on Thursday morning and had great fun with an unscheduled snowball fight!
Prints for Schools Exhibition
We are thrilled to share the success of the Prints for Schools project, organised by the Tipperary Arts Office, which took place at St Joseph's CBS this October/ November. This exciting initiative brought a collection of 32 contemporary prints by Irish artists to our school, allowing students to engage deeply with the art world.
The collection includes works by 22 artists including works by Cecil King, Alice Hanratty, Patrick Hickey, Gene Lambert, Suzannah O’Reilly and Des McMahon. Print mediums include monoprint, relief print, etching, silkscreen, lithograph, collagraph, and dry point.
The students curated the work for a school exhibition which was officially opened by visiting artist Suzannah O'Reilly, who also conducted a workshop on the same day.
Thanks to our Art teachers, Ms Eilís Doyle and Ms Niamh Toohey, for collaborating with the Tipperary Arts Office to bring staff and students this lovely Prints for Schools exhibition.
U14 hurlers win Langton Shield Final
A massive congratulations to our U14 hurlers on their Shield Final win at the Jim Langton Memorial Tournament hosted by Kilkenny CBS in Dicksboro GAA grounds. On the day we played Our Lady’s Templemore, CBS Kilkenny and High School Clonmel with results from our matches ensuring that our team progressed to the Shield Final against Cashel Community School.
After extra time and a thrilling match overall, Nenagh CBS came out with the win. Captain of the day was Justin Collins. Thanks to Eddie O’Gorman of Kilkenny CBS for organising a great day out!
Well done boys! Thanks to our first year hurling mentors of Ms Ellen Brennan, Ms Stephanie Kenny, Mr David O'Neill (English and History) and Ms Mary Reidy for all the great coaching and training sessions that they are doing with our first year students.
Geography Fieldtrip
Last week 48 Sixth Year geography students travelled to the Burren Education Centre where they met with a team of guides who helped them with their field study.
They started with an hour of analysis in the classroom and then with the information they were given went 5km to Bishop's Quarter Beach where they conducted their study which was a study of transportation and deposition processes in a coastal setting.
They then returned to the centre to write up their conclusions! It was a fantastic day with everyone working extremely hard to get the chance of getting 20% in their leaving certificate geography project.
Thanks to the Burren Education Centre and the geography teachers who accompanied the boys, Ms Christine Madden, Mr Philip Hickey and Ms Regina Mulcahy.
Keep in your thoughts
Our school community would like to keep in our thoughts Second Year student Jeffin Jaison and all his family at the sad and untimely passing of his mother, Seema Mathew. We would also like to remember everyone in our school community who is mourning the loss of a loved one.
House Exams
All of our Third and Fifth Year students were working very hard doing their house exams last week. We find this formal assessment to be of huge benefit to our students as they get used to sitting exams in a formal setting and revising a large section of their course for each exam subject.
General Election
All of us here at St Joseph's CBS Nenagh would like to wish two past pupils the very best of luck in the general election for Dáil Éireann, which takes place this Friday. Alan Kelly is running for the Labour Party and Ryan O'Meara is running for Fianna Fáil. Both candidates would make great elected representatives to serve the constituents of North Tipperary.
We would like to wish all 14 candidates the best of luck over the final week of their campaigns and we look forward to working with the three elected Teachtai Dálai for the enhancement of educational facilities at St Joseph's CBS Nenagh over the coming years.
Lunchtime Activities
There is a wide range of lunchtime activities on offer here at St Joseph’s CBS Nenagh from traditional music, geography club, vex robotics club, computer club, wellbeing club, book club, board games club, chess club agus an Club Gaeilge. There is an activity happening to suit everyone.
Nuacht na Seachtaine
Bhí daltaí sa 5ú Bliain agus sa 3ú bliain i mbun oibre i rith na seachtaine ag déanamh a gcuid scrúduithe. Bhí go leor dea-oibre ar siúl acu roimhe agus tá siúl againn go léir go bhfuair siad dea-chleachtadh agus taithí, rud atá fíor-thabhacht don todhchaí.
Thaisteal an fhoireann iománaíocht faoi 14 go Cill Chainnigh chun páirt a ghlacads sa chómórtas Jim Langton sa chlub Dickboro, atá suite ar imeall chathrach Chill Chainnigh. D’imir siad in aghaidh a lán scoileanna eile agus dea-thoradh a bhí ann dúinne nuair a bhronnadh an Corn orthu.
Agus an droch-aimsir ag druidim, thaisteal daltaí san idirbhliain ar an gCéadaoin go Caoláire go dtí an t-ionad eachtraíochta.
D’fhill siad ar ais ar an Aoine. Bhí sneachta tiubh ann agus cinnte bhí oll-throid liathróidí sneachta acu.
Bhí an rang tireolaíochta sa 6ú bliain imithe ar thuras lae go Baile Uí Bheacháin, contae an Chláir ar an Máirt seo caite ag déanamh oibre don tionscadal tireolaíochta.
