Newport Town 0-2 Mungret Regional

Newport Town’s tale of woe in the Premier League continued on Sunday when they lost their ninth consecutive game in the top flight, going down 2-0 to Mungret Regional.

Mungret have been doing well in the league despite a 4-0 defeat to Pike Rovers the previous weekend. They responded well and took the field at Newport determined to make amends.

They had some defending to do however as Christy Doyle was proving a real threat in possession.

The Newport striker forced a fine save from Mungret keeper James Roche when the sides were deadlocked.

Hamza Selman Celik put Mungret ahead on the half hour mark, but Newport didn’t give up and Doyle went close on a couple of occasions. However, the visitors doubled their advantage on the hour mark when the Premier League’s top scorer Celik scored his second.
