Lowry elected as counting of votes resumes

Counting of votes in the General Election has resumed at the Presentation Secondary School in Thurles for the two Tipperary constituencies.

The result of the first count in Tipperary North has seen Independent candidate Michael Lowry topping the poll and and exceeding the quota of 11,442 and Returning Officer, James Seymour, deemed him elected to the 34th Dáil.

Deputy Lowry’s surplus of 1,096 votes will now be distributed.

The Independent candidate topped the poll in the three seater constituency.

The breakdown of the first preference votes in the three-seater constituency was:
