The Big House after Independence

The next Ormond Historical Society talk takes place this Friday, December 6, at the Abbey Court Hotel at the usual time of 8pm.

Patrons, please note talk is on Friday, not the usual Monday, to accommodate the speaker. The talk is titled, ‘The Irish Land Commission and the Country House after Independence’.

The speaker is Professor Terence Dooley (Maynooth), the foremost authority on the history of the Irish Big House. Professor Dooley has written extensively on the subject, including his best-selling books, ‘The Decline of the Irish Big House’ (2001) and ‘Burning the Big House’ (2022). His latest work is the recently published ‘Land Reform and Legislation in Ireland 1800-2024’.

The talk will be of wide interest, and all are invited to the Abbey Court on Friday, December 6, to hear this inspiring speaker. Members, free as usual; non-members, €10.
