Funeral to take place of father of local Labour Party TD
The funeral takes place on this Wednesday, December 11, of Portroe native Tom Kelly, father of local Labour Party TD and former Minister, Alan Kelly.
The commencement of the monthly meeting of Tipperary County Council in Clonmel on Monday last was postponed for five minutes as a mark of respect following the death of Mr Kelly.
Mr Kelly, of Castletown, Portroe, passed away peacefully on Sunday last at his home, surrounded by his loving family.
The deceased was the beloved husband of Ann (Nan) (née McCarthy) and adored father of TD Alan and older son Declan, a former reporter with the Nenagh Guardian and the Irish Examiner, and now CEO and founder of internationally renowned Consello Group, the leading global and investing firm.
Mr Kelly is also survived by his daughters-in-law Regina and Julia and grandchildren, Adrian, Aoibhe, Charlotte and Senan.
He will be sadly missed by all his family, including his first cousins, John Lewis, Theresa Lucas and Sr. Assumptha, the Horrigan family, his sisters and brothers-in-law, relatives, neighbours and a wide circle of friends near and far.
Large crowds attended at the reposing of his remains in Saint Mary’s Church, Portroe, on Tuesday evening.
Mr Kelly’s Requiem Mass will take place on this Wednesday at 10am at the church in Portroe, followed by burial in the adjoining graveyard.
At Monday’s council meeting, members passed a vote of sympathy to Mr Kelly’s family.
