Nenagh Toastmasters enjoying their last meeting before Christmas.

Festive tall stories and poetry night

Nenagh Toastmasters met on December 10, their last evening before Christmas, to relate tall stories and poems for our mutual entertainment.

Chairs were arranged in a circle and we went around the ring in sequence, as members told tales or read poems - a couple of people sang songs. Some narrated from memory, most shared a favourite poem or reading from a book, ranging from ‘Go Placidly’ to contemporary humorous poems by Brian Bilston.

INTERESTING CONTRIBUTIONS

All members being prepared, the offerings went fluently, twice around the ring, either side of refreshments. There were so many interesting contributions, we decided to leave out the applause between offerings to accommodate them all from the 24 people present within the two hours meeting. It was highly entertaining and enjoyed by all.

Our next meeting after Christmas will be on January 7 at 8pm in the Abbey Court Hotel. All interested are welcome to sample an evening with Nenagh Toastmasters, where two or three members deliver prepared speeches of their choice, and the whole company has an opportunity to join in discussion of topics for one to two minutes. It’s an entertaining, stimulating and welcoming scene.
