Nenagh's JP O' Meara gets great welcome as new county councillor
Nenagh’s newest county councillor JP O’ Meara was accorded a hearty welcome from his fellow elected members when he was formally co-opted onto Tipperary County Council just before the festive holiday.
The vacancy on the local authority was created after Cllr O’ Meara’s brother, Ryan O’ Meara, was elected a TD for Fianna Fáil in the recent general election.
Oireachtas members cannot sit on local councils, forcing the newly elected TD to resign his seat. The Fianna Fáil party subsequently selected his brother to replace him on the council.
After his formal co-option last Thursday morning week, J P O’ Meara attended his first meeting of the Nenagh Municipal District in the town’s Civic Offices.
He was welcomed by all councillors present, including the Cathaoirleach Fiona Bonfield who said she had no doubt that he would do a fantastic job as an elected representative.
Cllr O’ Meara thanked his fellow councillors for their words of welcome and said he would represent the people of the district to the best of his ability.
Cllr Louise Morgan Walsh said she had known Cllr O’ Meara from their days going to school. She described him as a great family man and a hard worker.
