Tipp councillor slams Government's housing policy

Property prices soar nationwide

Labour’s Councillor Fiona Bonfield has condemned the Government’s failure to address the ongoing housing crisis as the Central Statistics Office (CSO) reports a 9.7% rise in residential property prices nationwide.

Cllr. Bonfield said: “The latest CSO figures are deeply troubling and confirm what families in Tipperary and across Ireland already know – housing is becoming increasingly unaffordable, making the dream of homeownership unattainable for many workers and families.

“The previous Government’s Housing for All Plan has failed to deliver meaningful results. Despite promises of tackling the housing crisis, the situation is worse than ever, with more people facing homelessness and evictions while property prices continue to climb.

“The CSO figures underline the deepening challenges in the housing sector. The reality is across the country and in Tipperary, families are being priced out of their communities.

“Families in Tipperary are struggling to keep up with soaring prices, and young people are being forced to leave the area because they simply cannot afford to buy or rent a home. This is not just a housing crisis; it’s a social and economic crisis that is tearing communities apart. Enough is enough.

“The time for half-measures is over. Enough is enough. Housing must be a priority for the next Government. We need bold, decisive action to build affordable homes and ensure that workers and families in Tipperary - and across Ireland – have a place to call home.”
