Another boon for Terryglass
The village of Terryglass, twice a winner in the National Tidy Towns Competition, has been selected to represent Ireland in a major European Competition.
The lakeside village has been a consistent winner of various prizes in the competition down through the decades, scooping a county first and silver medal in the 2024.
Its success has now earned it yet another distinction - this time on an international level
Nenagh Municipal District Administrator, Rosemary Joyce, informed elected members at their December meeting that the village has been chosen to represent Ireland in the international Entente Florale event.
Entente Florale is a horticultural competition established to recognise municipalities and villages in Europe for excellence in horticultural displays.
Trophies are presented annually by tourist boards and horticultural societies of European countries. Terryglass will represent Tipperary and Ireland in the category for populations up to 5,000.
Ms Joyce said this marked a great honour for the North Tipperary village.
Cllr Michael O’ Meara said Terryglass had set a benchmark to which all other villages could aspire. “I have no doubt that it will do extremely well in the Entente Florale competition.”
Birdhill represented the Nenagh Municipal Distirct in the same event in 2018 with distinction.
