Uisce Éireann working to restore water supplies to approximately 4,200 customers in Tipperary

Tuesday, 07January, 2025: Uisce Éireann crews are continuing to work to restore water supplies to thousands of customers across Tipperary who have been affected by recent heavy snowfall.

Crews have worked alongside ESB and Local Authority teams in difficult freezing conditions to respond to outages at local treatment plants and bursts on the network. Approximately 4,200 customers are still without water; primarily on the Galtee Regional Scheme, Ardfinnan and in some parts of Killenaule. Other customers continue to be impacted by low pressure as water supplies replenish following recent outages. The overall number of people affected by water outages is down from approx.17,000 yesterday.

According to Uisce Éireann’s Water Operations Lead, Colin Cunningham: “Crews have worked in freezing conditions to restore water to as many homes as possible and I’d like to thank them for their ongoing efforts. Our priority is the provision of clean safe drinking water to communities and the safety of water services staff who work to make that happen. With temperatures expected to drop to as low as minus ten degrees we expect further impacts to water supplies in the coming days as freezing ground puts stress on underground pipes and network connections to properties. This can cause an increase in leaks and bursts. We’re urging people to insulate outside taps, exposed pipes and tanks, to check for leaks and to turn off water to exterior pipes or unoccupied premises. We are especially asking people to conserve water in the coming days to help us manage water across the network and to never to leave taps running as this will not necessarily prevent pipes from freezing and can impact on local water supply.”

Update on Water Supplies Impacted:

Following work on the Galtee Regional Scheme, supply is returning to most areas including Cashel, Rosegreen, Bansha, Aherlow, Mount Bruise, Kilfeacle, New Inn and Tankerstown

Customers in Lattin, Cullen and Limerick Junction will see water returning throughout the day, while supply is expected to return to Emly by tomorrow.

Uisce Éireann has deployed tankers at the following locations: Emly GAA Pitch, Lattin GAA Pitch, Monard (Church at Solahead Road) and Mount Bruise National School.

The Templeteney scheme is recovering, and water has returned to many areas. However, customers at the end of the network in the areas of Ballydine, Deerpark, Ballynaraha and surrounding areas are still without water. Water will be returning throughout the day but it may be tomorrow before fully supply is restored for all customers. A water tanker is being moved this afternoon from Redmondstown Estate to Dove Hill Shopping Centre.

Water has been restored to all customers on the Tullohea Scheme which supplies Tullohea, Toor, Grangemockler, Ninemilehouse, and surrounding areas.

The Ardfinnan Regional Scheme is now fully operational and water supplies in the reservoir at the Treatment Plant have started to build. However, the network reservoir at Jamestown is depleted, with customers served from Jamestown experiencing low pressure/intermittent supply. A water tanker has been deployed to Barne Lodge Pub and will be in place by late afternoon today. Impacted areas are: Ballyclerihan, Newchapel, Barne, Rathkeevin, Chancellorstown and surrounding areas. Areas of high elevation areas in Ardfinnan and Grange are also experiencing low pressure/no water. A tanker is in place at Ardfinnan Village and normal supply is expected return to all impacted customers by tomorrow morning (Wednesday), with some customers regaining supply throughout the day today.

Customers in the Killenaule area of the Fethard Scheme are also currently experiencing an outage. An alternative water source is being deployed to Killenaule National School this afternoon.

Water supply has been restored to customers in Kilcommon, Templetoughy, Glengar Upper and Dolla area of the Nenagh scheme.
