Looking forward to a busy and fun-filled year
2024 finishes on a high note in Gaelscoil Aonach Urmhumhan
During the past while we have been busy here in GAU.
We have six children who have qualified for the Bebras national finals of computational thinking, which will take place in the University of Maynooth during April. The six finalists are Kaeden Ó hÓgáin de Loinge, Ciardha Ní Mhaoldomhnaigh, Bill Ó Gliasáin, Rian Ó Cuinn, Dylan Ó Corragáin agus Ellen Ní Shúilleabháin. We wish them the best of luck.
We were delighted to see three of our students do very successfully in the Dromineer-Nenagh Literary Festival, namely Evelyn, Lauren and Emma. Maith sibh uilig!
Our U11 boys reached the County Football finals, beaten by a strong Ardfinnan side, but played with such pride on the day. Off the sporting field, Donagh Ó Fearghaíl, Ciara Ní Dhúill Keelin de Breit and Dylan Ó Corragáin represented us extremely well, gaining fifth place in the County Final of the GAA quiz.
During the month of December, we were busy at school level with elections too. We were delighted to have the new members of our Comhairle na nÓg appointed, who will bring the student voice to bear on decisions in our school going forward, this year. Fáilte roimh, Chiara agus Ruairí ó Rang 6, Maitiú agus Saoirse ó Rang 5, Ben agus Lauren ó Rang 4 agus Fiadh agus Ruadhán ó Rang 3.
BUSY CHRISTMAS
There was plenty of excitement in the run up to Christmas here in the Gaelscoil in Nenagh. On Friday, December 13, we visited St Conlon’s Nursing Home, the Day Care Centre, Sue Ryder and the Manor Nursing Home, bringing festive joy through our carols and our music, which was very well received by all
On Monday, December 16, we took to the streets of the town to spread more festive spirit in the community with a rendition of carols accompanied by a magnificent display of musicality on tin whistles, guitars, banjos, concertinas and violins. We were extremely appreciative of the public’s support for our street collection, which will offset the cost of new equipment in the school yard.
The following day, we saw Rang 3 on stage with An t-Asarlaí ó Oz while Naíonáin Mhóra performed Dráma na Nollag and Rang 6 sang beautifully in harmony and performed on their instruments and bells. It was a night to be remembered. Even Daryl McCormack would have been proud of the budding young actors and actresses on the stage!
The highlight of the final week before Christmas for all the children was Aonach na Nollag where all the children got to buy toys, books and treats, all provided by the children and their families. Ranganna 5 and 6 had prepared fun-filled activities such as bowling, goal-shooting, face[1]painting, hair makeovers, cake decorating, jumper dressing and nail painting to name but a few which were a resounding success. All went home sona sásta with bags and bellies full!
As we entered the Christmas holidays, we were mindful of those who are lonely, sad and poor. We had huge support for the Team Hope Shoebox Appeal from our pupils, which is lovely to see. We also presented a cheque to Mr Harry Martin, President of St Vincent de Paul, to support the wonderful work they do in Nenagh throughout the year.
We are now looking forward to another busy and fun-filled year in 2025 in Gaelscoil Aonach Urmhumhan agus le Cúnamh Dé guímíd “Go mbeirimíd go léir beo ag an am seo arís.” Athbhliain faoi mhaise daoibh go léir!
