Barry Coffey signs for Cobh Ramblers
Airtricity League First Division side Cobh Ramblers have announced the signing of Barry Coffey ahead of the 2025 season.
The Nenagh native brings an impressive pedigree, having spent his youth career at Glasgow Celtic, where he developed through their ranks and gained valuable experience. Barry has also represented the Republic of Ireland at various underage levels, showcasing his talent on the international stage.
During a loan spell with Cliftonville in the Northern Irish League, Barry displayed his versatility and attacking prowess, making an instant impact by scoring three goals in his first three appearances. His performances earned rave reviews, with Cliftonville supporters praising his energy, creativity, and eye for goal.
Barry’s move to Cork City in 2021 saw him further develop into a key player. In 2022, he was City’s top scorer with 14 league goals, playing a vital role in their successful First Division title campaign and promotion to the Premier Division.
In the 2024 season in which City again earned promotion from the First Division, Barry recorded 6 goals and 4 assists across 30 appearances, further highlighting his ability to make a difference in crucial moments.
However, Coffey wasn’t retained by Cork City ahead of their campaign in the premier division but hasn’t moved far, just down the road to Cobh.
“I’m delighted to be here,” Coffey said.
“It’s a big season ahead for the club, and I want to be part of that and help the team do well with goals and assists. We have a great, strong squad and an experienced manager and backroom team to drive us forward. I’m really looking forward to the season starting and hopefully making it one to remember.”
Cobh Ramblers’ manager Mick McDermott shared his enthusiasm about the signing:
“Barry is a talented player that I know from my time in the Irish League; when the option to bring him to Cobh became a possibility, we acted immediately to bring him in. There was a lot of interest from other clubs, so we are happy that Barry chose Cobh for this next step in his career.”
