Tipp fans can make Munster Championship plans as fixtures confirmed

By Shane Brophy

Tipperary supporters can start making plans for the Munster Senior Championships as the dates, times and venues for the provincial hurling and football championships were confirmed by Munster GAA.

In the senior hurling championship, the rota of games reverts to the first round-robin format which started back in 2018 (no round robin in 2020 and 2021 due to Covid) with Tipperary starting out against six-time defending champions Limerick on Sunday, April 20th with a 4.00pm at FBD Semple Stadium. Earlier in the day, the championship will begin with a repeat of last years All-Ireland Final between Clare and Cork at Cusack Park, Ennis at 2.00pm. Waterford have the bye in round 1.

Tipperary will travel to SuperValu Pairc Ui Chaoimh the following Sunday, April 27th to take on Cork with a 4.00pm throw-in, while earlier in the day Waterford host Clare at 2.00pm.

Both round 3 games will take place on Saturday evenings at 6.00pm with Waterford hosting Limerick on May 3rd and Clare hosting Tipperary on May 10th. Tipperary’s final round-robin game it at home to Waterford on Sunday, May 18th at 2.00pm with Limerick hosting Cork later in the afternoon.

No details have been confirmed as yet of which games will be shown live on RTE or via the GAAGO streaming service which will be confirmed in due course.

Tipperary’s bye game will be in the final round on Sunday, May 25th when Cork host Waterford and Clare travel to Limerick with simultaneous throw-ins at 4.00pm, in which they will be hoping to have already booked their passage to the knockout stages, with the Munster Senior Hurling Final will take place on Saturday, June 7th with a 6.00pm throw-in time. The Saturday fixture is due to an agreement with the Leinster Council to alternate the weekend date of their provincial final with Leinster having a Saturday evening final last year.

Football

In Senior Football, Tipperary will look to avenge last year’s quarter final defeat to Waterford on Saturday, April 5th when they welcome the Deise to FBD Semple Stadium with a 6.00pm start.

The winner will progress to a semi-final against Clare at Cusack Park, Ennis on Saturday, April 19th at 2.00pm, with the Munster Senior Football Final fixed for Sunday, May 4th at 1:45pm.
