Impressive start to new season for Mawdsley

Sharlene Mawdsley got her 2025 season off to a winning start over 400m at the Scottish Athletics EAP Indoor Invitational on Saturday.

The Newport AC athlete clocked a new indoor PB of 51.69, a massive 0.22s off her previous best, to suggest her link up with new coach Tony Lester is already paying off, which included a warm-weather training camp in South Africa last month with some of the leading runners in the world.

The 26-year-olds new personal best was also well inside the qualifying standard required for the European Indoor Championships which take place in the Netherlands in early March. Before then, the Irish Indoor Championships take place at the Sport Ireland National Indoor Arena in Dublin on February 22nd & 23rd.
