25th anniversary of Shannonside Improvement Scheme

The re-convened AGM takes place in Terryglass hall on Thursday, February 13, at 8pm. In spite of the notice of the event, only a handful of people came to the meeting to represent their communities and were consequently unable to elect a committee to run the scheme for the next 12 months. This is the 25th anniversary of the scheme and it is sad to see so little interest from the community.

The current committee is stepping down after long years of service and a new committee has to be formed. Failure to elect a committee will lead to the scheme being wound up, with the loss of the support of the Dept of Social Protection. Once this happens, there is no going back. When it’s gone, it’s gone! The workload is small, entailing two to three meetings a year, occasional ad hoc meeting should a specific issue arise, a few hours per week for the secretary and a few hours a month for chairperson and treasurer.

Each member community needs to send up to three representatives to attend and participate in the reconvened AGM; and encourage members of your community who feel they would like to contribute to put themselves forward to be Officers of the scheme.

Please turn up on February 13 to show that you support the mission of the scheme and its importance in your community.
