Effective communication with teenagers
The three secondary schools in Nenagh warmly invite parents to an insightful talk by renowned clinical psychologist and broadcaster, David Coleman.
This special event will take place on Thursday, February 27, at 8pm at St Mary's Secondary School. David Coleman, widely recognised for his expertise in child and adolescent psychology, will be addressing the topic: ‘Effective Communication with Teenagers to Build Positive Relationships’. His talk will focus on practical strategies for fostering open, respectful, and constructive dialogue between parents and their teenage children.
This event is proudly brought to you by the parents associations and council of the three secondary schools, with additional financial support from Nenagh Lions Club.
The teenage years are a notoriously tricky time to maintain positive connections with our kids. Their instinctive drive for independence, allied with the slew of psychological, emotional, physical and social changes can lead teenagers to pull back from parents.
In this presentation, David will share his real-world solutions for how we can maintain solid, positive and supportive communication with teenagers, since this is the foundation of supporting their emotional wellbeing and maintaining the positive relationships that allow us to continue to parent them successfully. Delivered with David's usual blend of expertise, humour and a range of practical intervention strategies to boost effective communication, there will also be time for an open forum Q&A at the end.
The St Mary's and CBS secondary schools' parents associations run a number of fundraising events and they wanted to give something back to the parents who have supported initiatives over the years. The idea began with the St Mary's Parents Association when they invited their counterparts at the CBS to participate.
In the spirit of community, they approached the Parents Council of Nenagh College to participate, and they in turn suggested including the Nenagh Lions Club. They have worked together to bring this event to Nenagh, free to parents of teenagers in the greater Nenagh community.
Parents from all secondary schools in the area are encouraged to attend this free event and benefit from David Coleman's insights, based on his extensive experience working with young people and families.
Looking forward to seeing you there!
