Club of the Year - Burgess GAA

It’s the third time that Burgess have been named North Club of the Year having previously won the award in 2003 and 2005.

What a year 2024 was for the players of the Burgess and Youghal parish claiming the North Premier Intermediate title after a titanic battle with Silvermines with the men in green and gold producing an excellent showing in the last few minutes of the game to claim the title. This was followed up with an impressive Under 21 campaign where the club won the North ‘B’ Hurling title defeating Newport by a single point after another impressive late showing. There was also success with the big ball, claiming the North and County Junior ‘B’ Football title whilst they due to face the Kerry Champions in the Munster Semi Final within the coming weeks.

Senior Hurler of the Year - Sean Ryan (Templederry Kenyons)

Sean was a man very much on form for Templederry Kenyons in 2024, scoring 2-3 in their North quarter final victory over Kilruane MacDonaghs and followed it up with 1-4 in their semi-final defeat to Kiladangan. A deft first touch and direct running were the trademark of Sean’s game in 2024 and he was a constant goal threat in the Kenyons full forward line.

Premier Intermediate Hurler of the Year - Stephen Kirwan (Burgess)

Stephen Kirwan produced an outstanding performance for his side in the North Premier Intermediate Final, not only scoring three points from play, but also setting up many scores, and acting as the primary ball winner for his side, especially in the dying minutes of this game against Silvermines. This was just one of many impressive performances that Stephen put in for Burgess throughout 2024.

Intermediate Hurler of the Year - Sean Kenneally (Moneygall)

It’s the second year in a row for Sean Kenneally to claim the Intermediate Hurler of the Year accolade - a sure indication of how impressive he has been for his club. He scored 3-5 in the North semi-final and followed up with five points in the North Final – all from play. This form continued on with Sean playing a major role in Moneygall’s County title winning championship campaign - with Sean scoring 1-5 in the County Final.

Junior 'A' Hurler of the Year - Gavin McGrath (Kiladangan)

It was Gavin’s first year of adult hurling where was very secure at corner back for Kiladangan as they claimed the North League and Championship double. He was usually given the daunting task of man marking the opposition's danger forward - a task which Gavin always relished. Gavin also played a key part at corner back in Nenagh CBS’ Harty Cup victory.

Junior 'B' Hurler of the Year - Ronan Cunneen (Silvermines)

It was a great year for Silvermines Junior ‘B’ Hurlers as they completed the North League & Championship double with Ronan Cunneen the star man up front. Ronan was named man of the match in both finals, scoring 0-8 (3 from play) in the League final with Ronan scoring the winning goal in the penalty shoot-out against Lorrha. He produced the goods again for the Championship final against Newport, scoring 1-7 (1-2 from play).

Junior 'C' Hurler of the Year - David Hickey (Ballina)

David is no stranger to the North Awards with the Junior ‘C’ accolade being added to his already impressive CV which includes winning the 2003 U21 Footballer of the Year, 2004 Intermediate Footballer as well as Overall Footballer of the Year and the 2009 Intermediate Footballer of the Year. A stalwart of Ballina GAA Club, he was scorer in chief for Ballina throughout their campaign and gave an outstanding performance in the North Final scoring 0-15 (4 from play).

Under 21 'A' Hurler of the Year - Archie Devaney (Borris-Ileigh)

Archie played a big role in goals for Borris-Ileigh as they claimed the North ‘A’ title in 2024. Archie made some vital saves for his side throughout the campaign, especially in the North final victory whilst he also was a vital presence in goals for the Borris U19 side that got to the North ‘A’ Final.

Under 21 'B' Hurler of the Year - Eoin Grace (Burgess)

It is Eoin’s second time being named the North Under 21 'B' Hurler of the Year after he claimed the award in 2022. He gave a man of the match display in the North Final scoring five points from play and was the danger forward for his side in their campaign. He also played his part in Burgess Premier Intermediate Hurling and Junior ‘B’ Football victories.

Under 19 'A' Hurler of the Year - Tom Delaney (Borris-Ileigh)

Tom played at centre back for the Borris-Ileigh U19 and U21 sides in 2024. He was an integral part of the Borris U19 side that made it to the North ‘A’ Final scoring six points from centre back in their semi-final victory. He was also a commanding presence in defence on the Borris U21 side that claimed the North ‘A’ title.

Tommy played a key role at wing forward for Kilruane as they claimed North & County titles in 2024. He gave a man of the match display in the North Final scoring a hat-trick of goals and finished the game with an impressive tally of 3-2. He also played a key role for his clubs U17 side that claimed the North ‘A’ Hurling & Football titles.

Junior 'A' Footballer of the Year - John O’Meara (Kiladangan)

John was centre back on the Kiladangan side that claimed the North and County titles in 2024 - he was a consistent performer throughout the year and was a cool and calm presence on the ball.

Junior ‘B’ Footballer of the Year - Tony Dunne (Burgess)

It’s the second North Player of the Year award for Burgess stalwart Tony Dunne as he won the Minor Footballer of the Year back in 2006. Tony was also named the Overall Footballer of the Year in the same year. Tony led the charge from centre back for his side as they claimed North and County titles.

Under 19 'A' Footballer of the Year - JP Mbokha (Ballina)

It's the second year in a row for JP to win the North Under 19 'A' Footballer of the Year. The Ballina man was yet again another consistent performer for the Shannonsiders where he put in excellent performances for their U19, U21 and Senior football sides - these performances were awarded with a call up to the Tipperary Under 20 Football panel for 2025.

Under 19 'B' Footballer of the Year - Shay Gleeson (Moneygall)

Shay showed his leadership and consistency right throughout the year as he gave a series of excellent displays for Moneygall at U17, U19 & U21, operating in a variety of positions across hurling and football.

He won North medals in both U17 & U19 football and also captained the Tipperary Blue hurling team in their run to the All-Ireland Final of the Celtic Challenge competition.
