Nenagh Point to Point returns this Sunday

By Shane Brophy

The annual North Tipperary Foxhounds Point to Point races take place once again at Lisboney, Nenagh, next Sunday afternoon.

119 horses have been entered for the six races, slightly down on last year, but is still the largest entry of the four meetings taking place this weekend, including Oldtown (Dublin), Knockanard (Cork) and Tinahealy (Wicklow).

The Dublin road course is currently dry with only a small amount of rain expected during the week, but with it set to be dry once again at the weekend, the going is set to be good which will lead to a fast track, welcome for horses, riders, and spectators alike.

Traditionally staged in January until 2019, this is the fifth time that this meeting takes place in its new mid-February slot so the hunt can include a race for four-year-olds who aren't allowed to race until after February 1st. That race will be the opener, the Liam Buckley Car Sales 4YO Maiden, the winner of which will likely go to the sales at Cheltenham, and could be a name to remember if they go onto have a winning career.

Argentoa Royal runs his second race since the turn of the month, having been beaten just over three lengths on his debut when finishing third at Ballinaboola a fortnight ago and that experience should stand to him against a field that largely consists of newcomers. Cmon So is the only other horse among the 14 entries with a run under his belt but he has 15 lengths to find with the selection from their recent meeting.

The Nenagh Point-to-Point has always had a good base support with racing set to get underway at 1.00pm. Gates open at 11.00am with parking free to all spectators. Entry is €10 for adults with free entry for children.

Unfortunately there will be no juvenile race this year due to insurance reasons.
