Report on Tipp climate plan

Council supporting businesses and communities

Tipperary County Council adopted its first Local Authority Climate Action Plan 2024 - 2029 (LACAP) in February 2024.

The council has just published its first annual progress report on how it is delivering for climate action in Tipperary.

The LACAP Progress Report provides an update on how the county council manages its own energy efficiency and greenhouse gas emissions reductions targets, how it is helping other sectors, businesses and communities to achieve their climate action ambitions.

The report also highlights how businesses, communities and bioeconomy sector in the Tipperary ‘Decarbonising Zone’ are being supported to help deliver on climate action.

In relation to the LACAP Progress Report, the Cathaoirleach of Tipperary County Council, Councillor Declan Burgess, said: “Tipperary County Council is one of the foremost local authorities in implementing effective climate change mitigation and adaptation.

Projects, initiatives and collaborations by the council extend to biodiversity, green energy, energy efficiency, research and development, the bioeconomy, green enterprise, nature-based solutions, emergency services, circular economy, sustainable transport, empowerment of communities and businesses. This extensive activity is resulting in co-benefits for all of us in the county as a result of positive climate action.”

Eamon Lonergan, Director of Services for Environment and Climate Action in Tipperary County Council, added: “The council is an important enabler of climate action through the delivery of its daily functions and services and by demonstrating leadership in achieving its own emissions reductions and energy efficiency targets.

“There are considerable benefits and opportunities from collective climate action, including new and innovative economic development prospects and an understanding of the role of our natural environment in our climate change response and our quality of life.”

Clare Lee, Climate Action Co-ordinator for Tipperary County Council, commented: “This is the first report on the delivery of climate action by the council and demonstrates the collective efforts to mitigate climate change and to adapt to its effects.

“I wish to thank the elected members and staff of Tipperary County Council and all the businesses and communities across the county for their contribution to climate action over the past year.”
