PREMIER LEAGUE

Geraldines 2 Newport Town 2

Newport Town were thwarted in the 97th minute from registering their second win in the Premier League when fellow relegation battlers Geraldines struck a late equaliser to earn a share of the points on Sunday.

Geraldines took the lead after ten minutes when Tony Mambuana finished off a good move. The home side had a couple of great opportunities to increase their lead but Seamus O’Regan in the Newport goal made a couple of fine saves.

Newport got back on level terms after the hour mark when Aaron Coleman delivered a free kick to the back post for Elliot Slattery to finish and things got even better minutes later when Cillian O’Shea created the opening for Christy Doyle to give Newport the lead.

With the game deep in stoppage time, a hand ball in the area presented Mambuana with the chance which he duly converted to ensure a share of the spoils.
