Volunteers in Borrisokane Town Park after a recent tidy up.

Funds needed for Borris’ park

€20,000 required to cover planned improvements

The committee and local volunteers continue with the maintenance and development of Borrisokane Town Park.

This is a voluntary-run park covering approximately 16 acres in Borrisokane. It is widely used and a very popular amenity open to the public, free of charge, all year round.

Every Saturday morning, a Parkrun takes place, which is really popular with people from far and wide.

Recent weeks have seen a couple from Belfast come to Borrisokane just for the Parkrun with visitors from Dublin enjoying the run last weekend.

On a daily basis, many people use the park for recreation, to enjoy safe walking, to keep fit and to have fun with their kids in the playground.

Overall, the park is enjoyed every day, and it is of course a fully inclusive amenity with everyone welcome to enjoy its surroundings.

The maintenance and development of the park is ongoing.

Last year, with the assistance of a grant from Tipperary County Council under the Community Recognition Fund, we revamped the entrance to the park, improved the car park and re-surfaced many of the walk-way surfaces.

This year, we have plans to rehabilitate a riverside area that will be incorporated into the park. This promises to be a big improvement and will add to both the enjoyment and visual impact of the park.

APPEAL

While our work is voluntary, there is considerable expense involved in running the park and bringing about improvements. It is several years since the park sought funds from the local community and the general public. This year, we need to raise funds of about €20,000 to cover planned improvements (with work starting very shortly) and general maintenance. Therefore, if anyone would like to contribute to Borrisokane Town Park, please be aware that you can do so by (a) making a lodgement to our account with Borrisokane Credit Union (tel 067 27455) or (b) giving a payment to any committee member.

THANKS

The committee are very grateful to the Fox family of Borrisokane, who recently ran a darts competition in Tess Burkes and presented the proceeds of €1,500 to the town park. Many Thanks to the Fox family.

Finally, it is hoped to hold our AGM in March and same will be advertised in this newspaper. Please consider coming along and joining in this enjoyable and worthwhile effort - all for the community good.
